Trump Slams Chicago Mayor as 'Useless'
"Someone should explain to the Pope that the Mayor of Chicago is useless, and that Iran cannot have a Nuclear Weapon," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
The attack came just 24 hours after Johnson took to X to share photographs from a personal audience with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, describing the encounter in deeply reverential terms.
"Joining our Chicago faith community and His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, for a multi-faith prayer at the Vatican, yesterday, was one of the most awe-inspiring and humbling experiences of my life," Johnson wrote Friday.
The mayor had also added that "it was an honor to share time with a magnificent human," in an earlier post accompanying the images of the meeting.
Trump's remarks drew an implicit contrast between Johnson's high-profile Vatican visit and what the president characterized as the mayor's failures in governing Chicago — invoking the newly elected Pope as an unlikely reference point in a domestic political attack. Neither the Vatican nor Mayor Johnson's office had issued an immediate public response at the time of reporting.
